Cropping to a ratio without stretching
A crop keeps a rectangle of the original pixels and discards the rest. That is how you turn a landscape photo into a square avatar or a 16:9 YouTube thumbnail without squashing the subject. Stretching (changing width and height independently in a resizer) is a different operation and usually looks wrong on faces.
Common ratios: 1:1 for avatars and Instagram feed tiles, 4:3 for classic camera stills, 3:2 for many DSLRs, 16:9 for HD video and most blog heroes, 9:16 for Stories and Shorts. Freeform is for when the composition matters more than a platform’s frame.

Is cropping the same as resizing?
No. Cropping discards pixels outside the box and keeps the rest at their original resolution. Resizing changes how many pixels are in the remaining picture. Crop first, then resize if a platform wants an exact pixel size.
Will faces be stretched?
Not if you crop. Stretching happens only if you unlock aspect ratio in the resizer. This cropper never distorts; it only throws away edges.
Are animated GIFs cropped as animation?
No. You get a single frame. Keep the original GIF if you need motion.
Does the file leave my computer?
No. Drawing and encoding use the Canvas API in your browser.
Can I crop to exact pixel coordinates?
The overlay is relative to the displayed image; the download uses integer pixel coordinates of the original. For print-precision work, use an editor that shows EXIF-aware pixel rulers.
